Enhancement Projects in ERP

Fusion Cloud/EBS
What is enhancement?
Customer require new functionality within the existing system. The functionality can be developed using the standard or customization can be developed, if not exist in standard Oracle.
       Support issue Vs Enhancements
Some of the enhancements (interfaces or extensions, new features)
AR Integration with third party- Auto Invoices Import
       Corporate Credit Card Integration
       GL Budget implementation
       New Interface
New Reports: Concurrent Reports in EBS or OTBI Reports/Dashboard/ Analysis in Fusion
       New BPM Approval design
Payment Approvals / Invoice Approvals/ AR Adjustments approvals
Method and communication:
Normally, small enhancements will be handled as part of support. However if any major enhancements, separate project is created and handled all the enhancements as a enhancement project
If you are placed in enhancement project, you will be working with end users and Technical team for the requirements and testing.
Communication method: Emails and Web Conference and period scheduled meetings with customer and other teams
Team lead will be tracking the progress and reports to PM
Enhancement Projects: Interface
Typical Interface Architecture in Oracle ERP:
Source System -> File transfer to Staging tables ( Midleware)->Validation Program picks and transfers data to Module Interface table -> Base Tables
Use of APIs directly from staging tables - > Ex. Bank Account numbers updating in employee supplier records
Fusion Cloud: FBDI or PaaS based integration and also using Oracle Integration cloud service
Functional Consultant Role in Enhancement Projects
Functional consultants will be taking lead role in interacting with the customer and works with technical team to design the interface
Some of the enhancements
Enhancement Name:
Corporate Credit cards integration with Bank – Fusion & EBS
Documentation
Functional Consultant:
       EBS: MD050:Functional Design Document
Fusion :AN.100: Functional Design Document /Analysis Specification Document
       TE.25: Unit Test Script
Technical Consultant:
       EBS: MD070: Technical Design Document
Fusion :DS.140: Technical Design Document /Design Specification Document

Oracle Unified Methodology (OUM)

What is oracle unified methodology ?

Oracle Unified Methodology (OM) is developed by Oracle Corporation and the complete owner of this methodology is Oracle Corporation. AIM methodology is retired and Oracle replaced AIM with OUM. We'll try to discuss on our understanding on OUM methodology for the benefit of functional consultants.Following are some of the commonly used template names during implementation as part of OUM methodology . Oracle Partners will have access to complete OUM methodology processes and template documents .

Upgrade Projects in Oracle ERP

Types of Roles in Oracle Fusion ERP

1. Job Roles
2. Data Roles
3. Abstract Roles
4. Duty Roles

1. Job Roles
Job roles represent the job that you hire a worker to perform. Accounts Payable Manager, General Accountant, Accounts Receivable Specialist, Asset Accountant, Human Resource Analyst and Payroll Manager are examples of predefined job roles. You can also create job roles. Typically, you include job roles in data roles and assign those data roles to users. The IT Security Manager and Application Implementation Consultant predefined job roles are exceptions to this general rule because they're not considered HCM job roles. Also, you don't define their data scope in HCM security profiles.

2. Data Roles
Data roles combine a worker's job and the data that users with the job must access.

For example, the user’s work is to enter AP Invoice, but to enter invoices user need access to a particular Job Role as well as BU, to get the access user needs below.

1.       Job Role (Ex: Accounts Payable Specialist: To navigate to “create invoice” task)
2.       BU/Ledger (Ex: Tata Motors Business Unit: To enter the transaction-specific to BU) (Ledger in case of you are entering GL Journal)
So the combination of Job Role + BU/PL will give you the access to enter the transaction-specific to BU/Ledger.

3. Abstract Roles
Abstract roles represent a worker's role in the "enterprise" independently of the job that you hire the worker to do. The three main abstract roles predefined in Oracle HCM Cloud are:
Employee
Contingent Worker
Line Manager
You can also create abstract roles. All workers are likely to have at least one abstract role. Their abstract roles enable users to access standard functions, such as managing their own information and searching the worker directory. You assign abstract roles directly to users.

 4. Duty Roles
Duty roles provide access to the application functions that users require to perform the tasks associated with the duty. The access is defined as an entitlement, which consist of privileges. Duty roles are a type of application role. The reference implementation contains predefined duty roles. For example, the Accounts Payable Manager job role inherits the Approving Payables Invoices Duty role. For example, the Human Resource Specialist job role inherits the Worker Administration Duty role.

Each predefined duty role represents a logical grouping of privileges that you may want to copy and edit. Duty roles differ from aggregate privileges as follows:
They include multiple function security privileges.
They can inherit aggregate privileges and other duty roles.
You can create duty roles.
Job and abstract roles may inherit duty roles either directly or indirectly. You can include predefined and custom duty roles in custom job and abstract roles. You don't assign duty roles directly to users.

New Features in Fusion Update 20A

Oracle delivers new updates to their Fusion Cloud applications every quarter and the updates are mandatory and not optional. Oracle notifies their customer with the schedule of updates and provides sufficient time for testing. In the upgrades, bugs will be fixed and also new features will be released.
Following are some of the new features with respect to various functional modules in update 201A

General Ledger:

Ø  Configure Journal Workflow Notifications:
Update 20A introduced new feature to use Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher templates to generate email and in-application notifications. So now you can change the layout for Journal approval notifications as per business requirement. For example, you may want to include Logo or any image and can also be inserted custom messages in workflow notification and this is really beneficial to users.
In release 20A, this feature is optional and you need to enable manually in the new features page. As usual, enable this feature in test instance and then configure template as per your requirement and if test results are ok, you can perform the same in Prod instance. All the templates will be stored in Shared folders.

Ø   Genera Ledger Periods can be prevented from closure if subledger perios are not closed:

This is another interesting feature in update 20A and helps effective period close process and if you enable this option GL period cannot be closed if any of the following exceptions exit;
ü  Subledger accounting periods are not closed
ü  Unprocessed and untransferred subledger transactions
ü  Intercompany exceptions
ü  Pending transactions in the General Ledger interface
ü  Unposted transactions in General Ledger
However, you can exclude one more subledgers from this validation through the lookup ORA_GL_INCLD_STRICT_PRD_CLOSE

Receivables:

Ø  Configurable Credit Memo Request Approval Workflow Notifications

Similar to GL Journal Approval notification workflow, now you can use Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher templates to generate email and in-application notifications. So now you can change the layout for credit memo notifications as per business requirement. This features need to be enabled manually and optional in 20A.

Ø  Disallow Future Dated Invoices Created Manually When Chronological Document Sequence Enabled
Disallow creation of invoices manually with future transaction and accounting dates when chronological document sequencing is enabled on the ledger. This feature only applies to transactions created in a ledger that has chronological document sequencing enabled. Additionally, the transaction types assigned to invoices must have the option 'No future dates with chronological document sequencing' enabled.

Invoices created through the Import AutoInvoice process also use this feature to prevent the creation of invoices with future dates
